How to get invited to Paris Fashion Week!

Thanks to the wonderful Melissa, I recently got the chance to go to a Paris Fashion Week Party for Fashion magazine Wheretoget. The party reminded me of just how much I love and enjoy the PFW scene. In the summer of 2015 I got the chance to go to a number of shows thanks to a friend in-the-know who explained to me how to get invites. And here’s the good news – I’ve decided to share my insider knowledge with you in this post!

How to get invites to Fashion Week shows:

Go to the website “modeaparis.com” and check the dates for the upcoming shows. Paris has two fashion weeks per year, Spring Summer (Men’s Fashion and Ready to Wear) and Fall Winter (Haute Couture).

If you click on Fashion shows and then Men’s Fashion, Haute Couture or Ready to Wear you can see the schedule which looks something like this:

Understanding the Schedule

This schedule will help you to understand how to request invites when the schedules do become available (which will be around a month before). To request an invite hover over a show and you’ll see this appear:

Sending an Email:

To send an email to the person in charge of invitations click on the envelope in the bottom right hand corner. In your email you should explain who you are, why you would be interested in seeing the show and include your contact details and social media accounts. If you have a big following on social media you should also mention this! I wrote this in my emails to give you an example:

Dear Sir/Madame,

I am currently a full-time writer and blogger based in Paris.

I write for my own blog as well as writing for several other publications about Paris including (list of examples).

I would love to attend your show this year.

Please let me know if it would be possible to send me an invite to:

(insert postal address)

Kind regards

It is really important to put your postal address as a lot of the fashion houses send invitations by post!

FIVE: Don’t worry if you don’t hear anything straight away. I received the majority of my invites just a week before! You’ll receive either email invitations or invites in the post. The after party invites usually come by email a few days before the actual event. The invites you receive will be ‘STANDING’ invitations but sometimes you can get a seat if people are absent. The shows are all over Paris in all different venues, last year I went to the Shangri-La Hotel for one and a Church for another! Varied to say the least!

The shows are a fantastic opportunity to see some beautiful clothes and incredible designers and trust me, you won’t regret giving this a try!

Just a tip: copy and paste the same email to send to different people. Sending a mass email does not look good!

I would love to attend one of these fashion shows! the last time that I was in Paris was in September 2015. I’m going back soon and this would be a great way to see the fashion heart of paris. Thank you for the info!

Do you have any idea if I could get 2 invites? My boyfriend is a photographer for my blog and it’s a must to have him there with me. Do you think I’d ask for too much or should I go for it?

My son has recently returned from studying in SA after 3 years at AFDA and is now back in the UK and wants to do a masters at Nottingham Trent in fashion. He wants to go over to Paris in February 2019 and attend a fashion event is there anyway he can get a ticket for anything over that time that might help him get an insight? Thank you very much

Hi Nicola, if he followed the advice in my blog and told them he was studying fashion, I’m sure he would receive some invitations to some of the smaller shows and especially the haute couture shows.

Hi Chloe, I am an American blogger based about an hour outside of Paris. Do you think they would still mail the invite to my apartment here? It’s not the famous 75 so I was wondering what your thoughts are! I also have a photographer and she will be with me that week so we’re hoping to hit as many shows as possible for a piece. Think we can try to write our emails as a team?

Hi Allyson, apologies for the delay. I think they would still mail it. I lived outside Paris when I applied and they mailed all the invites to me 🙂 Yes definitely write your emails as a team, you’ll need two invites if your photographer will be with you. Hope you got to see some shows!

    Hello
I am heading to Paris this fall and will be there during fashion week. I am a designer myself here in Canada but I do it for myself, my friends and some local shows with other local designers to help raise funds and get an opportunity to showcase our designs. Would that be helpful in getting an invite perhaps including photo’s of recent designs on models in local shows. Thanks Marilyn

    Hi!!!
I am a student who will be studying abroad in Paris for fall semester and would love to see as many shows as possible. Do you think they would send an invite to college students? What is the best way for me to market myself in an email to get invites? Thanks for the help!

Hello, my name is kevin. I am totally interested in going to the fashion shows in Paris. I have always dreamed about Paris, and the fashion shows in Paris’s fashion week would be the icing on the cake. I am also interested in shopping. The clothes in Paris are light years ahead of the united states, especially southern California, which is where I am from. I would love an invite, Lori.

    Sincerely,
    Kevin

    Hello 🙂
I love your blog post, thank you so much.
I was just trying to access “modeaparis.com” but it seems to not be working anymore.
Do you know if the site is still working or if there is an updated version?
Thank you so much in advance,
    Lara

Hi Lara, sadly no. if the site is no longer working they must have changed the way you can sign up and I no longer work in journalism so don’t know if there is a new website, sorry!
